Patti

It's hard to believe that in 2 days, my beloved friend, aunt, and confidante will have been gone for 3 years. It's always sad to think that I'll never be able to laugh for hours with her, plan a trip to see the Braves play, or give her a hug. What I can do is take the things that she taught me, through our short time together, and live by them - while passing them on to other people.
The act of giving. I don't have much to offer, especially monetarily speaking. However, I can give of myself by volunteering, watching my friend's children so they can have a much needed break, continue to volunteer and mentor children who don't have positive influences, and all with a smile. Sometimes I get more excited about giving and doing for people rather than receiving. Patti would give and give and give...and then give some more. I always loved to give her presents at Christmas, because even if she opened a small gift that you got at the Dollar Tree, she would make you feel like you had just given her a Cartier watch worth thousands of dollars.
She taught me the importance of family. I'm lucky to have a very close, loving family. A family that has supported all of us, no matter what. Losing Patti made me realize the importance of family even more, but even more the importance of always putting them first. You don't know how long you, or anyone else, has left and you should always treat it like it's the last time. Don't be afraid to say, "I love you."
I could go on and on about the life lessons and positive influence that my aunt had upon my life. She has definitely helped shape me into a better woman. I hope that I show this every day, with all of the children I teach and am a role model to. I hope that when I am a parent, that I can be the person to pass these traits on because life is too short. Love each moment, like it's your last!
